A 10-Minute Evening Wind-Down

The best evening routine is the one short enough to survive a long day. This one takes ten minutes and uses things you probably already own.

Minutes 1–2: drop the light. Turn off the overheads and switch to lamps. Light a candle in the room you will end the night in — the small ritual of lighting it is the signal that the day is closing.

Minutes 3–6: warm water. A shower or bath resets your body temperature; the gentle cool-down afterward is part of what makes you sleepy. A shower steamer or a bath soak turns four ordinary minutes into the good part of the day.

Minutes 7–9: change into sleep. Actual pajamas, not the day's clothes or gym gear. The change of fabric is a cue your brain learns fast. Get under a throw on the couch if you are not going straight to bed.

Minute 10: phone down, face down. Charge it outside the bedroom if you can, or across the room if you can't. Blow out the candle last — that is the full stop at the end of the day.

Ten minutes. Repeat it a week and it stops feeling like a routine and starts feeling like the best part of the day. Everything mentioned here lives in our Rest and Home collections.
